Materials Options

Before we fabricate, form, laser cut, or create any sheet metal part, we always start with the same question: What material is this part made of? There is a wide variety of sheet metal you can select for fabrication, and we carry a lot of it. Our materials list below shows our sheet metal material selection for prototypes that we usually carry. If you do not see your desired material on there, do not worry! Ordering specific material for our customers is something we do weekly. Contact us and we will see what we can do for you!

Aluminum: 5052 and 6061

All your aluminum sheet metal prototyping needs can be satisfied easily through GTR! We carry both 5052 and 6061 aluminums, in a multitude of different thickness. To learn more about the differences between 5052 and 6061, check out our blog post about it here!

Cold Rolled Steel

If you are looking for a sturdy, shiny, and smooth metal for your part, look no further than cold rolled steel. It is strong, good looking, and will not shrink during the forming process, making for high precision.

Hot Rolled Steel – Pickled and Oiled

Hot Rolled Steel offers better workability, little to no internal stress, and a lower cost than cold rolled steel. Compared to cold rolled steel, it has more rough edges and surfaces that require deburring.

Stainless Steel

Easy to fabricate, corrosion resistant, and a long life span all make Stainless Steel a great option to fabricate your part with. GTR can supply all the stainless steel prototyping solutions that you need.

Galvanneal

Also known as Galvannealed Steel, this comes from galvanizing then annealing the sheet of steel, hence the name Galvanneal. It has a matte grey color which is easily paintable with a more brittle coating.

Galvanized Steel

What makes this steel special is the protective coat of zinc that improves the corrosion resistance of the material. This makes it more resistant to damage and protects the steel beneath it from being exposed to the harsh conditions of our atmosphere.

Polish and Mirror Finished Steel

These finishes add a beautiful aesthetic to the material, which should be utilized in a design where the metal where be shown on the outside.
